About the Office of Science
Providing the scientific evidence and data-driven insights needed to inform public health policy and action across New York State.
Our Mission
The Office of Science (OS) provides epidemiologic and data capabilities to the New York State Department of Health’s (NYSDOH) data-driven decision making. We focus on leading data and research activities to support cross-cutting priority health problems, emerging threats and community-wide health.
The Office’s expertise includes data analytics and visualizations, research and epidemiologic methods, scientific communication, data modernization, public health science capacity building and emergency response. The Office of Science has led dozens of research studies, data reports and dashboards. It has developed new initiatives focused on projects that increase connections and insights across NYSDOH, applications to enhance access to and analysis of the DOH's data, and activities to study and address the essential connection between economic prosperity and health outcomes. The Office is also contributing to DOH’s post-COVID workforce rebuilding efforts through developing and coordinating scientific training, peer-to-peer sharing, and academic mentorship opportunities and services.
Organizational Structure
The Office of Science is organized into three core divisions, each with a specialized focus, working collaboratively to achieve our mission.
